Mia kills her and drives to Shazia's house to kill her husband - the only person aware that Mia was involved in the investigation. Mia, aware that she would be incriminated in Shazia's own memories, uses the Recaller on Shazia. She ties up Shazia, who tries to convince Mia that she will delete the data and not tell anyone what happened. However, during the sweep, Mia can't prevent Shazia from seeing the memories of both murders. Mia stops by making coffee and tries to insert a story into her memory that she was alone in her hotel room. Shazia assumes Mia's reluctance is due to her being ashamed to watch porn. Mia admits to witnessing the accident, but upon learning that Shazia will use the Recaller, she hesitates to have her memories scanned. A witness remembers seeing Mia looking out of her hotel room window, and Shazia is hopeful that Mia's testimony will allow her to prove the case - which would also allow the insurance company to pursue a negligence lawsuit profitable against pizza truck owners. Shazia identifies witnesses to the accident but cannot establish who is responsible for the accident. Although memories are not recognized as trusted, it is now mandatory that the audience undergo memory scans when requested. Her job is to use a device known as a Recaller to check a claimant's memories and verify the claim. The man who was hit by the truck contacts his insurance company and is visited by Shazia (Kiran Sonia Sawar), an investigator.
